In this study, we questioned 497 participants from various businesses across multiple sectors discussing reasoning, concerns, and lessons learned in relation to business goals achieved through the business migration to utilizing the cloud for business activities.

Out of the 497 participants 361 respondents have already initiated the process of migrating to the cloud while 136 respondents are actively in the process of researching and planning the migration for their business to the cloud.
The #1 IT Priority in 2019 is Protecting Business Data
It’s no surprise that across both segments of respondents both sides unanimously voiced their #1 priority in 2019 is to protect and secure their business data from a combination of malicious insider and cyber-attacks with 68% of the votes.
93% Success in Business Goals Related to Migrating to the Cloud
We asked our survey respondents who have already migrated to the cloud if they felt the migration was successful in helping the companies reach their business goals. Survey participants who have already migrated over to the cloud report a 93% success rate; while 11% report the migration exceeding their expectations. Top reasons for migrating included growth of business agility, rapid time-to-market, automatic security, and cost reduction according to our studies.
Financial & Transactional Data is the #1 Type of Data on The Cloud
When discussing the types of data currently being managed on the cloud the #1 type was financial and transactional data with 58% of participants followed by Sales & Marketing needs with 52% and Internal Accessibility (employee portals, etc..) at 50.1%
Companies Who Migrated to the Cloud are Less Concerned About Regulatory Compliance
While 57% of respondents who are planning on migrating to the cloud are concerned about regulatory compliance only 37.3% of respondents who have already migrated have this concern; however, the concern difference from past respondents appears to of shifted to concerns of lack of expertise
The #1 Concern of Migrating to the Cloud is Fear of Malicious Insiders
The primary concern of people planning to migrate to the cloud is malicious insiders while people who have migrated to the cloud feel that this is lesser of a concern than the other choices with only 20% versus 30.1%
The Fear of Security on the Cloud Decreases Once Your Make the Switch
When comparing survey results for an organizations concern with overall cloud security of companies that have migrated to the cloud versus people who are planning on migrating to the cloud only 13.5% of our survey respondents who have already migrated to the cloud responded very concerned while 30.1% of organizations who are planning to migrate to the cloud are “very concerned”
Over 69% of Respondents Report No Security Incidents Related to the Cloud
Out of our survey respondents who have already migrated to the cloud an overwhelming amount of over 69% have reported they have not had any cloud security issues in the last 12 months
Confidence in Cloud Security has Improved in the Last 12 Months
As a whole across all people who chose to participate in the survey, confidence has improved significantly within the last 12 months (over 64% people already migrated to the cloud / 74% for people who are planning on migrating over to the cloud)
Our Final Thoughts…
One thing is very clear across all of our survey responses and that is the transition to migrating business initiatives to the cloud is a cost-effective solution for effectively communicating across your business while improving time to market with data-driven decision-making opportunities at every turn.
As technology leads the way in this transition all eyes are on security of data being stored on the cloud making it pertinent to understand the flow of data and ensuring your company stays abreast of the latest security precautions throughout your business’s engagements across the cloud. One of the most credible statistics worth noting is of the businesses we surveyed while everyone’s concerns are heightened of data store on the cloud; less than 1% of our survey respondents experienced any security breaches due to migrating their data to the cloud.
